Part 4 – Questions abound
Following Mr. Moran’s February 14, 2025 Facebook post, and the subsequent shares and re-shares of that post on the S.O.S. Facebook Forum, serious questions abound from the public about this tax proposal. It is disappointing that comments were turned off, seemingly because of the intense community reaction. Many of the comments related to serious questions regarding the proposed tax and the reasons for the proposed tax.
We have tried to distill those questions down in an effort to get our elected officials to provide clear and direct answers to these questions.
- Does the Parish intend to dismiss this lawsuit if the tax proposal does not pass?
- The Parish hired Leaked & Anderson to handle the Port litigation on November 19, 2024. Did the Parish have the money to fund the Port litigation when it hired Leake & Anderson?
- The Parish is now seeking to hire McGlinchey to handle the Port litigation. Does the Parish have the money now to pay McGlinchey absent the passage of the tax proposal?
- The Council recently formed its own Legal Department consisting of Justin Stephens. Is Mr. Stephens tasked with handling the Port litigation?
- The proposed tax seeks to raise approximately $1,166,667 per year for four years in revenue to fund the Port litigation.
- How much did the Parish send on the Port litigation in 2024 & 2025?
- How did the Parish come up with an estimate of the amount needed to fund the Port litigation?
We will all be watching the meeting and expect our elected leaders to respond to these simple questions.
