Something Stinks

Propaganda or the ugly truth? You decide!

It’s not a done deal: Plaquemines seeks to take advantage of St. Bernard’s opposition to the Port of New Orleans.

In our opening salvo “A done deal?” we sought to reassure the public that the LIT facility is not a done deal in St. Bernard. We were inspired to start this site and start with this article because the President and the Council (except Fred Everhardt) were trying to get everyone to give up. And it almost worked. But if you were looking for proof that we are making progress, look no further than today’s article in the business section of the Business section: “Plaquemines port pushes for downriver terminal.

In this article, the Plaquemines Port made public for the first time its intention to have a 50/50 joint venture with the Port of New Orleans to have the proposed container terminal in Plaquemines rather than St. Bernard. This should be proof certain that St. Bernard is still in this fight.

We were able to get some privileged access to the information regarding the Plaquemines Port’s plan, including its December 5, 2024 letter to Governor Landry. You won’t get this anywhere else. Take a look for yourself at the entire letter and attachments.

For everyone who has been fighting for all of these years, please know that your efforts have not been in vain. Look at what the Plaquemines Port identifies as its “Political Advantages.” This was one of its main points to Governor Landry as to why Plaquemines is a better site!

“No Intense Local Opposition Like in St. Bernard.” You should all be proud that Plaquemines’ selling point is that they don’t have people like you putting up such a strong fight.

One of the most important takeaways from this article is that “[t]he Landry Administration, in an emailed response on Wednesday, said it would remain neutral on the proposal for now and urged officials from the two ports to continue to talk.” Many of our politicians who have been trying to get you to give up have been saying or suggesting that if we continue to oppose the Port then Governor Landry will come down on us with a vengeance. Not so! And this is coming directly from the Governor’s office. The Governor is NEUTRAL at this point! Looks like those who have been telling you otherwise have been caught lying … again.

So what does this all mean? It’s not a done deal. We need to keep fighting!

After all, Plaquemines needs us!

FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!
